Holiday Gift Making Classes at the Senior Center



The New River Senior Center and Paradise Valley Community College, Continuing Education are offering  FOUR new Holiday gift making classes.  These classes are taught by Artisans with decades of experience under their belts. The instructors sell their artwork throughout Arizona and the nation, at art shows, fairs and on commission.  Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from the best!  
In two different gourd classes, students will learn how to make Gourd Ornaments and Angel Pins. The Gourd Ornaments class is from 9-11AM on 4 Tuesdays, 11/8-12/6 and Angel Gourd Pins is from 1-3PM on 4 Tuesdays, 11/8 – 12/6.
Beginning on November 10- December 8 (4 Thursdays), Chip Carved Icicles is from 9-11AM and Russian Leaf Beading Earrings is from 1-3PM.
The fee for each class is $59 and there will be a $10 materials charge for each class (call Barb at 623.465.0367 for info on materials/tool use).  All classes are held at the New River Senior Center, 48606 N. 17th Ave, New River, AZ 85087.  It’s an adventurous drive through the Sonoran Desert to get there!

Community Action Programs

Do you need assistance with you utility bills, rental assistance, eviction prevention, telephone assistance and more?  The Community Action Program, thru the Foundation for Senior Living will assist any income eligible person of any age in applying for these and other available program.  Call 623-979-3911 for an appointment and more information.

Benefits Assistance Program

Trained volunteers from Area Agency on Aging, Region One, will provide free assistance at the Kiwanis clubhouse in New River on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month from 9am until noon.  They will provide information about medicare and other health insurance benefits to seniors, the disabled and caregivers.  Medicare annual enrollment is from October 15 to December 7, 2011.  Bring with you a complete list of your current prescriptions and your red, white and blue medicare care.  No appointment is necessary at this time.  For more information please call 602-264-4357.

MEALS AND TRANSPORTATION

Lunch is available Monday thru Friday at Noon - with a reservation made at least one day in advance.  Donation $4.00.  Home delivered meals are available with approval through different social services or private pay.  Transportation to doctor's appointments - first come first served basis.  Transportation to and from the senior center on Monday, Wednesday and Friday with advance notice.  Please call for more information.

Community Yard Sale!

We are having a Community Yard Sale on October 8th at the Center and the Kiwanis Community Park from 7am until 1pm.  Spaces are still available for $20.  There will also be a pancake breakfast from 7am until 10am at a cost of $5 for adults and $4 for kids under 12.  For more information please call 623-465-0367 or 623-465-2641.  Please come out and support your community.
